Welcome!

Looking for the COSA BELLA FOTO blog? You're at the right place! We're in the process of changing our name to Joey Nicole Photography, so please hang tight and we'll have it all clear very soon. In the meantime, enjoy some snapshots of recent shoots and articles filling you in on what's going on in the here and now. Enjoy!

There are a LOT of photographers out there. And I mean A LOT.

Every day, I receive emails that simply want our pricing information. I am flattered, as that typically means you like our portfolio enough to consider hiring us. But frankly, I'm feeling a bit used. Like I'm just a body behind a lens. When really, Jake & I can offer so much more than just an end product. But you don't know that, and it's not your fault. You, dear client, are bombarded by internet ads, ad-filled wedding magazines, and recommendations from family and friends. And you are overwhelmed.

So while searching for your perfect photographer, be sure step away from the emails and indulge us with an in-person meeting. Find out who we are behind the lens... what motivates us, what drives our passion, and what just might make us your perfect wedding photographers. We will find out if we click and if we have that chemistry that will put you at ease and just make you feel good on your wedding day. We know that not everybody is our client, but when the shoe fits, it feels so good. And you just can't tell that from an email.

Today, I am posting a few images of myself to prove my point. I have never considered myself photogenic. I don't think I am the ugly duckling either, but I have just never been that comfortable in front of the lens. But I was in desperate need of some new images. My facebook profile pic, until now, was taken back in 2008. Eek!

So I called up on my husband Jake to indulge me with a few images. With him behind the lens I am comfortable, I can laugh, I can be my dorky self, and I can give him "lovey" eyes without even thinking. I don't feel like a sitting duck being taunted to perform. And you should never feel that way either. I love the way my new photos turned out. I chose the right photographer.

Please enjoy a few images of me by my favorite photographer, Mr. Jake Bowles (aka love of my life aka my big strong man) :)

joeyjakeblog4.jpg I am officially the world's worst photography subject... partway through my shoot, I made Jake give me the camera so I could take some photos of him. Told him it would help me relax. I was getting itchy watching him with my D3 and not being able to take photos! And it worked. I got my fix. I relaxed. And I also got my favorite photo of Jake to date. I want this one blown up wall-size :)

Since we're on the subject of Jake, I also got this shot of him last night while testing the lighting for a family shoot out at the beach. Delicious.

Joey you are VERY photogenic!!! And I admit, I was searching for prices when I was looking for a photographer, then I got everything mixed up, and darn I am glad I did! Because when we met you and Jacob... there was NO QUESTION who I wanted to hire (Andrew was praying the price wasn't outrageous because he knew he wasn't talking me out of that one) and boy are we glad we did! You two are the BEST and we seriously plan on coming back to you in the future! :)

July 24, 2009 // Engagements
They say that looks can be deceiving. That, sometimes, what appears on the outside is not a true reflection of what lies within. Brian and Andrea are the very exception to this assumption. They are just as sweet and delicious as they appear, if not more.

Brian has been a friend since our days at the UW. He even stood up with Jake as a groomsman at our wedding three years ago. So when Andrea entered the picture, we just knew she was a perfect fit for him.

While we were shooting Sara and Michael's wedding this Spring, Brian told Jake and I of his plan to propose to Andrea on an upcoming trip to Dana Point. He was so excited, he could hardly contain himself. It was infectious, and we were so excited for them.

We celebrated their engagement aboard a yacht, bathed in tasty summer light, followed by some fun at the train station. Enjoy a few shots from our evening out :)

Thanks for noticing! I loved the wedding magazine too - she just happened to have it there so we though it would be fun to incorporate it :)

I stumbled upon your blog from twitter. You got some good stuff here. Best of luck trying to land that Hawaii wedding. I have always wanted to shoot a wedding there!

I am not a YouTube junkie. I have probably watched fewer YouTube videos than anyone else around. It kind of freaks me out, the random things I have seen when I have watched them. So I choose carefully.

While perusing facebook updates today, I stumbled across this video, and it took me completely off-guard in a beautiful, surprising, uncanny kind of way. I had never seen it, I wasn't expecting it, and it made me smile. It made me laugh. So much that I cried. I laughed and I cried through the entire thing. I am posting it here to share the good mojo.

I love this couple. I wish I knew them and their friends. I wish I could have been their wedding photographer. It's the amount of passion and entire lack of shame that went into it that makes me love them. It just made me feel good.

I wish the same carefree kind of feeling for you today :)

Wow. It has been one crazy month. In the last 2.5 weeks, we have photographed one destination wedding, one local wedding, one unique wedding ceremony, one engagement shoot, one family shoot, and even a commercial shoot. And we even decided to change our company name in the middle of it all. I am dizzy to say the least!

The greatest part of it all is being able to be surrounded by the love these couples and families share, and to experience these fantastic celebrations of that love. At times I feel like an intruder... like these moments are so private and so intimate, that I shouldn't be there... that they should be able to sink away and take it all in privately. But, somehow, I manage to disappear into the background and capture it. I am truly one lucky lady to be included in these moments.

I don't have time right now to give everyone a full blog post yet (but I will when I catch my breath a bit!), so enjoy a single image from each event our last few weeks.

June 21, 2009 // Families
Imagine a warm Spring afternoon...

You're at a park downtown on the Seattle waterfront.

You hear birds chirping...
Children giggling...
And everywhere around you, people are smiling.

It almost seems too good to be true.

But it's not.

It's just another day in the life of a beautiful family. A family where the daughters dance the fine line between loving and teasing each other, and where the proud parents still flirt, show affection, and make time to train a young puppy.

Jake and I recently had the pleasure of spending a late afternoon with parents Masha and Jason, and their three delightful young ladies, Claire, Emma, and Isabel. 16-week old Jack made a guest appearance as well.

Enjoy a few images from our day at the park. A sunny bunch of bright balloons became a fun diversion for the girls :)

Love the balloons (everything is better with balloons ;) ) and love the location--it's one of our favorite places to shoot. The colors are warm and happy :) Great job!
