October 3, 2009 // Engagements
It was a warm and calm afternoon. She wore a perfect summer dress, and he, a shirt he didn't love oh-so-much. But he did it for her, and for the promise that he could wear his favorite shirt in part 2 of their engagement shoot. His lumberjack shirt, they called it. With their wedding several months away, they were already perfecting compromises like an old married couple.

We greeted them with a sunny bunch of bright balloons, an ode to Jackie's pending birthday only two days away, and the balloons made a great distraction for a somewhat nervous Zach.

I think Zach put his excitement level at about a 2 before our shoot began. And I can't say I blame him. Being the center of attention isn't for everyone, and Jake and I are always sensitive to that part of our clients. Many of our clients have only experienced more traditional portraits that incorporated more lighting technology than emotion. We aim to change your outlook on that completely :)

When the shoot concluded, he celebrated by picking a tiny, beautiful white flower and putting it in Jackie's hair. A symbol, indeed, that he was feeling the love while walking the park with his bride-to-be.

Jackie and Zach, you are so, so adorable together. Your love is pure, and you march to the beat of your own hearts. I am so excited for your future together.

Jackie:

Joey- have I told you lately how amazing you are? Well, if you didn't know.. Zach and I are still obsessed with our pictures and I can't stop watching the slideshow either.. Thank you SO much for capturing so perfectly our relationship and personalities. Can't wait 'till the wedding!

Kat Speyer:

My husband started our engagement shoot with a similar level of trepidation... he really wasn't excited. By the end, he was saying "we should do this every year!" And "this is like couples therapy!" I think most people just don't know how fun it is to be themselves in front of the camera and have that moment captured forever. Yay for you!

Joey Nicole:

Thanks for that comment Kat! It's great to hear how ones point of view can be changed by just one shoot. I think they are so much fun!

September 8, 2009 // Engagements
Nothing bonds strangers like the pain of an early morning, extremely intense workout several days a week at Gravity Janes. But amongst the sweat, nausea, and chalk dust is how Jake and I came to meet Judy.  And while we are ecstatic about feeling uberstrong these days, we are even more grateful for the new friends we've made.

Judy and Ben are engaged and will be married next Spring. We had so much fun with them at their sunset engagement shoot, and I love, love, love how we get to know our couples during this time. We even got to see Ben's wild side emerge as the night went on :)

Ooh, and while we had some great skies to work with here, if you want to see some really fantastic landscape & wildlife photography, you must check out Ben's website!

They say that looks can be deceiving. That, sometimes, what appears on the outside is not a true reflection of what lies within. Brian and Andrea are the very exception to this assumption. They are just as sweet and delicious as they appear, if not more.

Brian has been a friend since our days at the UW. He even stood up with Jake as a groomsman at our wedding three years ago. So when Andrea entered the picture, we just knew she was a perfect fit for him.

While we were shooting Sara and Michael's wedding this Spring, Brian told Jake and I of his plan to propose to Andrea on an upcoming trip to Dana Point. He was so excited, he could hardly contain himself. It was infectious, and we were so excited for them.

We celebrated their engagement aboard a yacht, bathed in tasty summer light, followed by some fun at the train station. Enjoy a few shots from our evening out :)

Thanks for noticing! I loved the wedding magazine too - she just happened to have it there so we though it would be fun to incorporate it :)

I stumbled upon your blog from twitter. You got some good stuff here. Best of luck trying to land that Hawaii wedding. I have always wanted to shoot a wedding there!

Wow. It has been one crazy month. In the last 2.5 weeks, we have photographed one destination wedding, one local wedding, one unique wedding ceremony, one engagement shoot, one family shoot, and even a commercial shoot. And we even decided to change our company name in the middle of it all. I am dizzy to say the least!

The greatest part of it all is being able to be surrounded by the love these couples and families share, and to experience these fantastic celebrations of that love. At times I feel like an intruder... like these moments are so private and so intimate, that I shouldn't be there... that they should be able to sink away and take it all in privately. But, somehow, I manage to disappear into the background and capture it. I am truly one lucky lady to be included in these moments.

I don't have time right now to give everyone a full blog post yet (but I will when I catch my breath a bit!), so enjoy a single image from each event our last few weeks.

The story of how Rori and Matt met is nothing less than hysterical, and totally gives proof that this pair was truly meant to be. They tell the story best, but let's just say it has to do with an ad on craigslist, funny friends, and a fantastic sense of humor.

I found their playfulness so contagious during our shoot, but also discovered their passion for each other to be so genuine. Their wedding this September is sure to be full of laughter and love.

Rori & Matt, you guys are such a joy to be around... we can't even begin to tell you how excited we are for your wedding! Thank you so very much for choosing us :)
